This web site is dedicated to the Arts of Photography and Computer Artwork that I dabble with nowadays as a hobby. I first had become involved in Photography in my teen years, having learned much of my craft from my late father who had been a studio photographer for a number of years. During my 40 + years in photography, I did freelance work, newspaper photography as well as both military and police photography. Now retired, my photography consists primarily of shooting family photos and also scenes and textures that I incorporate into my computer artwork.
After years of working with Photography, Computer Artwork became a natural addition to my interests once I got into the early days of computing in the early 80's. Back in those days, computer artwork for the majority of us was very simplistic graphics and often done using programs that were written in BASIC. How times have changed since then. Today, anyone with a bit of an imagination and rudementary computer skills can create images that 40 years ago were only being done by major motion picture studios. The sky is the limit depending on your budget to create fantastic images and animations on a modern home PC and with the correct software. Even those of us who may find drawing simple stick figures difficult, can create worlds of flight and fantasy with the various software packages available to everyone today. For those who may think this is an expensive form of art to dabble in, let me assure you it isn't. Many of the software programs, 3D models, paint programs I use are very inexpensive and some are even free. So I hope that some visiting this site may gain some inspiration and give 3D computer art a try. You may find your way to a new and fascinating hobby or even a profession.
Just for the record, most of my photography is shot with an Olympus C8080 Digital camera. My artwork is primarily done using the following programs: Paint Shop Pro, DAZ Studio (Free 3D program), Bryce, and Hexagon. The last 3 programs are all available through the DAZ 3D website . I know that some of my peers swear by Photoshop, which I admit is a great program, but I personally find Paint Shop Pro more than sufficient for my uses and is much less expensive than Photoshop and in my opinion is just as good a program. ( I actually have Photoshop, but never use it - I always find myself going back to my PSP Version 9 as my graphics and photo workhorse) I know some purists will argue the point, but for me, lets just say we can agree to disagree.
Although, I have to say that if going pro in the graphics field, you may not have many options other than Photoshop as that program for many graphic studios is the standard in the industry. But for those of us just doing 3D and Photo Manipulation primarily for a hobby, PSP is more than sufficient for most users. If interested in Paint Shop Pro, you can purchase it from many retailers or go direct to the Corel Store where they also have downloads for trial. I should note that in recent years, the program has had many changes to it including its name as it now goes by Corel Paintshop Photo Pro, but all the best features of the old PSP and many new features are there so as they say - What's in a name?.
Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate any feedback - good or bad on my creations or photography. I hope you find some of my modest artwork and photography of interest. Also, for those who already are into 3D computer art, I have links to some of my free 3D models in OBJ and / or OBP (Bryce) formats online available for download. Have a great day.... Bruce
